Wetherald Behavioral – ABA Therapy and Special Education
Wetherald Behavioral Academy (WBA) is a private special education school for special needs students ranging from kindergarten to twelfth grade (ages 5 to 22). WBA is a separate entity from our clinic based ABA consulting services. Located in Albany, Georgia, Wetherald Behavioral Academy was established to provide an environment where the pursuit of learning and instructional effectiveness is valued for students with emotional disabilities, intellectual disabilities, autism, pervasive developmental delays, specific learning disabilities, and other educational challenges. WBA aims to meet individuals where they are on their educational journey, regardless of chronological age or grade level. We strive for all children to reach their full potential through structured learning based on the principles of applied behavior analysis. The mission of Wetherald Behavioral Academy is to educate children with learning differences to fulfill their potential. We continually strive to provide exemplary educational instruction, remediation for areas of challenge, optimal social experiences, and the opportunity to unlock strengths and talents. As a result, WBA develops confident life-long learners who lead enhanced, productive lives and serve as positive examples of what individuals with learning differences can achieve.
Wetherald Behavioral Academy was developed to meet the academic and behavioral needs of students who require more intensive special education services than can be provided within the local school districts. The mission and philosophy upon which the instructional principles of WBA has been developed by a multidisciplinary team consisting of educators and behavioral health professionals representing a variety of specialties. The final product of these planning efforts is a highly organized program, which modifies inappropriate behaviors and develops academic skills through precise structure and individualized educational programming.
Our values are the building blocks of our program:
Our vision at WBA is to provide exemplary educational instruction, remediation for areas of challenge, opportunities to excel in areas of giftedness, optimal social experiences, and the opportunity to unlock strengths and talents. As a result, WBA develops confident life-long learners who lead enhanced, productive lives and serve as positive examples of what individuals with learning differences can achieve.
WBA combines research-based teaching strategies, personalized instruction, and small class sizes that turn academic frustration into enlightenment and active engagement. Each student’s curriculum is planned around educational needs and abilities based on thorough academic and behavioral assessment. Students are taught concepts and subjects in ways they understand, which builds self-esteem and confidence in the classroom. They also have access to on-campus ABA, Speech Therapy, and OT practice specialists. All of your child’s needs are addressed in our program, during the school day.
Standards Based Curriculum
The standards based model is an educational program based on common core standards that utilizes the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). This program aims to meet each student where they are academically regardless of chronological age or grade level.
Adapted Standards Based Curriculum
The mission of the adapted standards based program is to provide K-12 students with Intellectual and Multiple Disabilities the opportunity to become motivated, responsible and independent citizens.
